How we produce salary estimates

Basis: Statistics Norway (SSB), table 11418, 2025

A salary estimate is an amount we calculate when the employer has not given pay. It appears as gross annual pay with “~” in front. If the ad states pay, we always show that instead.

The figures we start from

The estimate comes from Statistics Norway (SSB), table 11418: the monthly earnings of full-time employees in each occupation (STYRK-08), given as the lower quartile, the median and the upper quartile. The figures cover all sectors and both sexes, and the latest year is 2025. Norway has no general statutory minimum wage, and the estimate does not use collective-agreement rates.

From ad to amount

No language model is involved, and the same ad always gives the same estimate. Each ad that comes with an occupation code (ISCO-08, which the EURES vacancy carries) is looked up in the table. If that exact occupation has no published figure, or too few people behind it, we use the nearest broader occupation group. The range runs from the lower quartile to the median for junior and entry-level roles, from the lower to the upper quartile when the level is mid or not stated, and from the median to the upper quartile for senior and lead roles. Monthly earnings are multiplied by 12 and the result is rounded to the nearest 1,000 kr.

Limits

The estimate is not a promise from the employer. It describes what full-time employees in the same occupation earn across Norway, not this employer, this city or this company's pay scale, so what you are paid depends on the collective agreement, your experience and your own negotiation. Ads without an occupation code get no estimate. If the employer has stated a salary, we show it without changes.
